Tips for getting in the Word!

I think every christian I’ve talked to has admitted at some point, that making a habit out of reading their Bible is a challenge. Up until the last 3 years, I rarely picked up my Bible, if I’m being totally transparent. Any habit is not easy to start, but it’ll be worth it in the end.

  1. Find an accountability friend. Not just any friend, you want one who is wanting to get deeper in the Word too and is going to push you when you want to give up. You want someone who is going to be real and honest with you, and is willing to help you get back on track if you fall off. Text them daily to check-in and share what you’re reading with them.

  2. Pick one book in the Bible and read it start to end. I played Bible roulette for a long time and I didn’t learn anything, took things out of context, and was never able to apply the Bible to my life. When I started to read books all the way through is when I began to understand God on a deeper level and learn more about the Word.

  3. Don’t over-do it. If reading a chapter a day is too much for you, then just stick to a couple of verses a day. The thought here is “quality over quantity”.

  4. Set an alarm on your phone. Setting this alarm will help remind you to pick your Bible up and do the reading! For me, trying to do it near the same time of day each day works best for me.

Habits won’t stick unless it’s something you’ve purposed in your heart that you’re going to stick out. They won’t happen by chance, they come with hard work and intentionality. When you purpose in your heart you want to grow closer to God, your actions will soon follow!
