Impact of memorizing scripture
I’ve had the thought recently of how important scripture memorizing is. We tend to emphasize the importance of it to our children in Sunday School lessons, but then tend to neglect it within ourselves as we mature in our Christian walks.
How many times have you been in a situation, done or said something you knew was wrong, only to feel immediate guilt? If you’re like me, probably pretty often.
Here’s the solution to that friends, memorize scripture. When we get in those situations where we just wish we had a little more wisdom, we can use God’s Word to be our guide!
A soldier doesn’t spend months preparing for war and battle, just to leave his weapon in the truck when the time comes. So why do we, as Christian’s, get up and fight the enemy without our weapon, the Word of God? Some of us spend 10 minutes in it in the morning and then check it off our list as though we’re done with it. I’m guilty of that. But it should be a tool, a weapon, that we are mentally equipped with all day long to help us fight against the enemy!
Here’s some tips on how to get started with memorizing:
Fall in love with God’s word. We don’t remember things we don’t value.
2. Surround yourself with that scripture: phone background, sticky notes
3. Meditate on it: Think about it, Think about Jesus
4. Challenge yourself: Set a timer and challenge yourself to recite it at different times of the day
5. Start to apply it; when you come into that situation, use it!
